In 2022, Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) was commissioned by The Gatsby Foundation to carry out a Foresighting activity to help the UK’s education and retrofit sectors identify the skills required to decarbonise our domestic properties. Foresighting, an activity that forecasts future skills requirements and identifies the gaps in current provision, has the potential to future-proof the UK’s retrofit workforce. For this project ESC focussed on the skills and knowledge required to deliver retrofit that includes: • A mission-driven, customer-focused approach • A whole-systems approach to both the supply chain and individual properties; and • The use of innovative digital tools. Experts from both the retrofit and education sectors contributed to the project to create an extensive list of Knowledge & Skills (K & S) Statements. The dataset lists all those statements that were not matched to existing IfATE Occupation Standards. The statements use a standardised syntax and vocabulary, so that these may be added to existing Occupation Standards where necessary.
