The Fish Atlas for Germany and Austria - Digitaler Fishartenatlas von Deutschland und Oesterreich is an initiative of the Gesellschaft fuer Ichtyologie e.V. (GFI). Data were collected from literature survey, species inventories of the federal states, extracts from state fishdatabases and distribution maps from Steinmann and Bless (2004) for species listed in Annex II of the Habitat Directive.
