Overview

The data include results of the electrification modeling for the five Nigerian Federal States Cross River, Niger, Ogun, Plateau and Sokoto. Non-electrified village clusters were identified and a load was estimated. Small clusters with a low demand (demand <50kW) were assigend stand-alone solutions, while for the cluster with a larger demand techno-economically optimized hybrid mini-grids were contrasted to grid extension. Grid extension considers topography and existing infrastructure such as roads to identify a realistic grid extension pathway. Results included in the data set show identified clusters and electrification option created for a three-phased rural electrification approach towards 100% electrification and the respective grid development. This work partly results from the authors’ collaboration with the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Power, Nigeria and funded by the German Government and the European Union. The authors gratefully acknowledge the support from GIZ-NESP and Nigerian FMP. Any conclusions or recommendations expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect the views of GIZ-NESP or FMPWH.
