  • The Electrification of Heat (EoH) demonstration project is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)* and seeks to better understand the feasibility of a large-scale roll-out of heat pumps in homes across the UK. It aims to demonstrate that heat pumps can be installed in a wide variety of homes and deliver high customer satisfaction across a range of customer groups. This dataset provides summary data that defines the number of heat pump installations completed by the project, with associated information about the type and age of property into which the installs were made. All users are directed to the report "Heat Pump Installation Statistics" which has been published to document the data release and provide important context for the data and project. A copy of the report is included within the "Additional Documentation" section of this dataset and may also be obtained from the Energy Systems Catapult website. *as of February 2023 Department for Energy Security and Net-Zero (DESNZ)

  • The Modernising Energy Data Access (MEDA) competition was set up by Innovate UK and the Modernising Energy Data group to help develop the concept of a Common Data Architecture (CDA) for the Energy Sector. One of the main goals of the Common Data Architecture is to improve data sharing across the energy sector and make data more interoperable across organisations. In order to effectively understand and combine data from disparate sources, it is necessary for the data provider and data user to have a common understanding of the key concepts and terms used in the data. However, the lack of authoritative definitions or standards in the energy sector means that this is often not the case. In addition, the National Digital Twin Programme has identified that it will be important to extend this common understanding across the wider economy to ensure that data is interoperable and understandable across traditional sector boundaries. Within this page we will document existing Glossaries and Vocabularies from across the energy sector, analyse these to identify overlaps, disagreements and gap and begin to reconcile issues for a number of key use cases that have been identified in the MEDA competition.

  • The public modelling assumptions book for the modelling reported in the EV Energy Taskforce's (EVET) Charging the Future: Drivers for Success 2035 report, published March 2022. Using Energy Systems Catapult’s transport modelling expertise, the Taskforce assessed for the first time what will be required of the UK’s public charging network to meet the needs of drivers, investors and the energy system. It shows how infrastructure can support the phase out of sales of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles between 2030-35, and deliver on the transport ambition of Carbon Budget Six. The assumptions book here outlines some of the key data used for the modelling work ESC's Transport team carried out using the ESME Transport whole systems transport and energy system analytical framework. The data covers assumptions around: - End Users - Chargepoints - Vehicles - Electricity Networks - Other supporting assumptions

  • The Electrification of Heat (EoH) demonstration project is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy* and seeks to better understand the feasibility of a large-scale roll-out of heat pumps in homes across the UK. It aims to demonstrate that heat pumps can be installed in a wide variety of homes and deliver high customer satisfaction across a range of customer groups. This dataset is derived from the monitored heat pump performance data and provides a summary of the performance data quantity and quality and the data analysis outcomes. Each column of data in this dataset is described within the data dictionary included in the "Additional Documentation". It also contains a unique property ID number which can be used to link this data to all other published project datasets. The heat pump performance data was collected at an average of 2-minute time intervals. It was then stored in it's raw form. To prepare the data for analysis, data cleansing was undertaken and a cleansed dataset was produced. The cleansed data was then quality checked and analysed and the outputs of this process form this dataset. Two written reports which are included in the "Additional Documentation" outline the process in more detail and insights derived from this data. *as of February 2023 Department for Energy Security and Net-Zero (DESNZ)

  • Energy Systems Catapult offers expertise in National Energy System Modelling and Analysis, which draws on the internationally peer reviewed Energy System Modelling Environment (ESME) tool to inform and support energy strategy and planning policy for Government and industry. ESME is a least-cost optimisation model designed to explore technology options for a carbon constrained energy system, subject to additional constraints around energy security, peak energy demand and more. The ESME model was originally developed by the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI), an industry and government funded research institute into low carbon energy system planning and technology development to address UK energy and climate change targets. ESME has developed into one of the most powerful energy system models for the UK, with the outputs and insights from the modelling used across a variety of contexts. ESME covers the power, transport, buildings and industry sectors, and the infrastructure that underpins them, in five year time-steps from 2010 to 2050. This set of scenarios is Patchwork, a series of distinct regional energy strategies (eventually integrated by central government). Energy Consumption is one of the most sought after datasets needed by the organisations that we have worked with throughout a variety of the Modernising Energy Data projects, and although getting a household level of this information comes against GDPR challenges and is therefore non-accessible for the vast majority of organisations, breaking consumption down into smaller areas can be hugely beneficial for gaining insights into how energy is consumed within the UK. We have amalgamated Gas and Electricity consumption per Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA) which is available to download via file transfer, or via API

  • This data contains forecasts for the Greenhouse Gas Intensity, Energy usage costs, and Network costs (transmission and distribution) for various national-level energy sources for the year 2032, including Grid Electricity, Grid Gas, and other non-grid fuels. The Grid Electricity data also contains forecasts for the value of national and local flexibility services. The data was used by ESC in the 'Energy Outcomes Evaluation' calculator, to conduct 'Bills and Carbon' analyses of the Prospering from the Energy Revolution (PfER) detailed designs and demonstrator projects.

  • This data was produced as part of the Energy Technologies Institute’s Smart Systems and Heat Programme. It was developed to help understand the possible implications of EV charging in the context of the decarbonisation of buildings in local areas. This data is based upon real world vehicle journeys captured in the Department for Transport’s National Travel Survey (NTS). Within this survey families maintain a travel diary for 7 days which contains information about all car journeys completed by the family. For families with more than one vehicle it is possible to identify which car has been used for each journey. Data collected over 8 years for a total of 67,848 vehicles was used in the analysis. This dataset contains EV charge profiles for domestic and public charge points. Domestic charge profiles are represented as both ‘after diversity’ demands and as ‘typical' demand profiles for an individual charge point. After diversity demands represent the average charge profile across a large number of households. These will show a lower peak than the charge profile for an individual household since households will all have unique travel patterns and, therefore, will charge at different times of day. Public and Work charge profiles represent the after diversity demand, but with an assumption that these charge points are used every day.

  • This data has been produced through the Modern energy Partnerships programme. This is a collaborative programme led by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), alongside Cabinet Office, HM Treasury and the estate-owning departments, while Energy Systems Catapult provides programme delivery, analytical and technical support. It focussed on campus style sites such as hospitals, prisons and military bases, and sought to develop a mechanism that allows the public estate to achieve at least 50% untraded carbon emissions reductions by 2032 against a 2017 baseline. The data consists of typical average, maximum and minimum costs to purchase and install different low carbon technologies on these types of site. This has been gathered through the development of 24 decarbonisation pathways (Concept Designs) for a range of different public sector sites owned by National Health Service (NHS), Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

This set of scenarios is Clockwork, well co-ordinated centrally planned long-term energy infrastructure. • In 2022, Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) was commissioned by The Gatsby Foundation to carry out a Foresighting activity to help the UK’s education and retrofit sectors identify the skills required to decarbonise our domestic properties. Foresighting, an activity that forecasts future skills requirements and identifies the gaps in current provision, has the potential to future-proof the UK’s retrofit workforce. For this project ESC focussed on the skills and knowledge required to deliver retrofit that includes: • A mission-driven, customer-focused approach • A whole-systems approach to both the supply chain and individual properties; and • The use of innovative digital tools. Experts from both the retrofit and education sectors contributed to the project to create an extensive list of Knowledge & Skills (K & S) Statements. The dataset lists all those statements that were not matched to existing IfATE Occupation Standards. The statements use a standardised syntax and vocabulary, so that these may be added to existing Occupation Standards where necessary.
