Overview

OverviewThis layer provides location and attribute information for Facilities regulated under the Superfund Enterprise Management System (SEMS). SEMS integrates multiple legacy systems (e.g. CERCLIS, ICTS, SDMS) into a comprehensive inventory of active and archived hazardous waste sites evaluated by the Superfund program. It contains sites that are either proposed to be, or are on, the National Priorities List (NPL) as well as sites that are in the screening and assessment phase for possible inclusion in the NPL.The Facility Registry Service (FRS) provides quality facility data to support EPA's mission of protecting human health and the environment by identifying and geospatially locating facilities, sites, or places subject to environmental regulations of environmental interest. Facility data is improved with geospatial processing of incoming data and data curation tools to provide an integrated, dataset to partners and the public through a variety of methods and products. For more detailed information about these facilities, use the FRS Query tool.Feature Layer: SEMS InterestsThis layer catalogs environmental interest facilities subject to hazardous waste remediation and cleanup efforts under Superfund.Data fields include facility identification, location details such as address, city, county, state, and hydrologic unit codes, as well as regulatory program details, status, and federal involvement indicators.Geospatial coordinates are standardized to the NAD83 datum to support accurate mapping and analysis.Links to EPA resources provide users direct access to more detailed facility and program information.Geographic CoverageThe dataset covers facilities across the United States and its territories and tribal areas.Use CasesSupports environmental professionals, policymakers, and researchers in tracking Superfund site statuses and environmental compliance.Enhances public access to information about hazardous waste sites and ongoing remediation efforts.Enables geographic analysis of environmental interests related to hazardous waste and regulatory programs.Access and LicensingThe data is publicly available in the U.S. public domain, with disclaimers regarding accuracy and intended usage noted by EPA.
